Meet Mary
MARY MFUM, M.S., MHC-LP
Bilingual Therapist (Twi)
OFFICE LOCATION : NEW YORK
Hi there! I’m Mary, a dedicated clinician passionate about walking alongside children, teens, and families on their journey toward healing and growth.
I believe in creating a warm and affirming space where clients feel safe to explore who they are, build resilience, and work through life’s challenges with courage and clarity. Therapy is a brave step, and I feel honored each time a client lets me into their world. Whether it’s through play, conversation, or reflection, I approach each session with presence, compassion, and a deep respect for your unique story.
My Approach to Therapy
At the heart of my work is a deep belief that every child, teen, and family deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported. I meet clients exactly where they are — with empathy, patience, and genuine curiosity. Therapy with me isn’t about “fixing” anyone — it’s about helping you or your child feel safe enough to open up, explore what’s going on beneath the surface, and begin to heal at your own pace.
I take a warm, relational approach grounded in evidence-based practices. I integrate methods that support emotional understanding, behavior change, and connection, including:
Play Therapy – Helping children express and process emotions through creativity, imagination, and play when words are not enough
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – Gently exploring the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to build healthier patterns
Motivational Interviewing – Encouraging insight and personal motivation in a way that feels empowering and nonjudgmental
Trauma-Informed Care – Creating a safe, predictable space that honors your experiences and supports healing at your own pace
Strengths-Based Approach – Focusing on what’s already strong within you and using that as the foundation for growth and resilience
My work is also deeply influenced by my time supporting children and families in the child welfare system, where I witnessed the power of consistency, compassion, and advocacy in some of life’s most challenging moments.
Whether I’m working with a child learning to manage big emotions, a teen navigating identity and relationships, or a family working to reconnect, my goal is always the same: to help create space for healing, understanding, and lasting emotional growth.

How Therapy Can Help
Therapy can be a powerful space for healing, discovery, and growth. For children, it can mean learning to name their feelings, build confidence, and feel more in control of their world. For teens, it might be a place to untangle big emotions, explore identity, and build healthy relationships. For families, therapy can restore connection, improve communication, and strengthen the bond between parents and children.
No matter where you are on your journey, therapy offers a chance to slow down, reflect, and feel supported. My goal is to walk alongside you — to create a space where you or your child can feel understood, gain tools to navigate life’s challenges, and begin to thrive from the inside out.
My Qualifications
I hold a Master of Science in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. John’s University in Queens, NY. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, graduating Magna Cum Laude from The City College of New York.
At every step, my passion for supporting others has only deepened — and I bring that same passion, curiosity, and care into my work with each client.
Take the First Step

Mary
